Which beach is closest to Reims?

Reims sits roughly the same distance from several stretches of coast: Picardy, the Opal Coast, French Flanders and Normandy. None is within two hours, and only about half an hour separates them. Rough figures from central Reims, without traffic:

DestinationBy car
Le Crotoy (Bay of Somme)about 230 km, 2 h 15
Dunkirk / Malo-les-Bainsabout 255 to 285 km, 2 h 30 to 2 h 45
Dieppeabout 250 to 280 km, 2 h 45
De Panne (Belgian coast)about 260 to 300 km, 2 h 45
Le Touquet-Paris-Plageabout 275 km, 2 h 45 to 3 hours

The honest answer: the Bay of Somme is the closest, and well worth a visit for its seals and salt-marsh landscapes. Dunkirk is a little quicker than Le Touquet, while the Belgian coast and Dieppe are about the same. With only half an hour between the nearest and the furthest, the real question becomes what kind of stay you are after.

Why choose Le Touquet from Reims

  • The Bay of Somme is still within reach for a day out, as are the Authie bay and Montreuil-sur-Mer: see things to do around Le Touquet.
  • A lively resort in every season, with events all year: check the Le Touquet events calendar.

Getting from Reims to Le Touquet

By car: A26, A29 then A16

Allow about 275 km and 2 h 45 to 3 hours. Take the A26 towards Saint-Quentin, then the A29 towards Amiens, and finally the A16 towards Boulogne-sur-Mer as far as the "Étaples / Le Touquet" exit. It is almost all toll motorway. If you start from the east or north of the Marne, the A26 towards Calais is an alternative, though longer in kilometres. There is no direct service.
