Which beach is closest to Paris?

There is no beach within two hours of Paris: the Channel is roughly 180 km away as the crow flies, and roads always add a little. Several resorts sit within a few minutes of each other, though. Here are rough figures from central Paris, without traffic (a Friday-evening departure slows everyone down).

ResortBy carBy train
Deauville-Trouvilleabout 200 km, 2 h 15 (A13)about 2 hours, direct from Saint-Lazare
Dieppeabout 190 km, 2 h 15about 2 h 15, change at Rouen
Étretatabout 210 km, 2 h 30 (A13)no station: train to Le Havre then coach, about 3 hours
Le Crotoy (Bay of Somme)about 225 km, 2 h 20train to Noyelles-sur-Mer, then a local connection
Le Touquet-Paris-Plageabout 240 km, 2 h 30 to 2 h 45 (A16)Paris-Nord to Étaples-Le Touquet, from about 2 h 10

The honest answer: from the west of Paris, the Normandy coast is slightly quicker, and Deauville-Trouville has the advantage of a station in town. Le Touquet is around a quarter of an hour further by road, but the gap narrows if you live in the north or east of the Paris region, or if Gare du Nord is your station.

Why Le Touquet for a seaside break

  • A huge beach: at low tide the sand seems endless, perfect for long walks, running or sand yachting.
  • A pine forest just behind the dunes, criss-crossed by cycle paths, so you can go from sea to woods in minutes.
  • A resort you explore on foot: old villas, the rue Saint-Jean, the market and restaurants are all in the centre.
  • A lively town all year round, not only in July and August: see our events calendar.
  • You can arrive without a car, thanks to the Paris-Nord to Étaples line.

How to get from Paris to Le Touquet

By car on the A16

Allow about 240 km. Take the A16 towards Amiens and then Boulogne-sur-Mer, and leave at the "Étaples / Le Touquet" exit. It is a toll motorway. Once you arrive, the car can stay parked for the whole stay: here are our tips on parking in Le Touquet.

By train to Étaples-Le Touquet

Trains leave Gare du Nord for Étaples-Le Touquet every day, some direct (regional TER or TGV), others with one change. The fastest take just over two hours, many around 2 h 30. The station is about 5 km from the centre of Le Touquet, across the Canche estuary: finish by bus, taxi or bike. Full details on our getting to Le Touquet page.

A seaside weekend from Paris

Leave on Friday late afternoon to arrive in time for dinner. On Saturday, take a long walk on the beach at low tide, climb the Canche lighthouse, then enjoy an aperitif on the rue Saint-Jean. On Sunday morning, cycle through the forest and along the Canche estuary, have a relaxed lunch and head back in the evening. More ideas on our Le Touquet weekend page.

Where to stay: Villa Mon Étoile

Our 1920s Art Deco villa has two 55 m² self-catering apartments, Hélios and Cassiopée, each sleeping 4 guests plus a baby, or 8 guests if you book both. It is about 300 m from the beach and 200 m from the rue Saint-Jean, so everything is within walking distance. Fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, fibre wifi, terrace with barbecue. Rates start at €140 per night, 2-night minimum, plus a €50 cleaning and linen fee.

Charles's tip: if you drive, leave Paris before 4 pm on Friday or after 8 pm: getting out of the city makes all the difference. For the return, Monday morning is often the smoothest if you can work remotely.
