Two hours from Paris: really?
To be honest: by car, Le Touquet is not two hours from Paris. Allow about 2 h 30 to 2 h 45 for the 240 km on the A16, without traffic, and a little more with the inevitable loo stop. By train, on the other hand, the fastest direct services between Paris Gare du Nord and Étaples-Le Touquet take just over two hours (around 2 h 10), many others around 2 h 30. Add a quarter of an hour by taxi or bus, as the station is about 5 km from the centre.
By train with children
- Choose a direct train: no connection to dash for with a pushchair and bags.
- Book early to sit together, especially on Friday evenings and before the school holidays.
- Travel light: bed linen, towels, travel cot, high chair and baby bath are waiting in the flat.
- Plan the station-to-villa leg: book a taxi, or take the bus. After that, no car needed.
By car
Leave Paris on Friday before 4 pm or after 8 pm to avoid the worst of the exit traffic, and plan a stop halfway so the children can stretch their legs. Once you arrive, the car can stay parked all weekend. Detailed routes are on our how to get to Le Touquet page.
What a flat changes for a family
- Two separate bedrooms: a 160 cm bed for the parents, two singles for the children.
- A full set of baby equipment: travel cot, high chair, baby bath, child-friendly crockery, toys and books.
- A fully equipped kitchen for snacks, bottles and suppers at children's hours.
- A washing machine, so you head home with clean clothes rather than a bag of sand.
- A terrace with a barbecue, and the beach about 300 m away.
With a baby, our guide to Le Touquet with a baby covers the beach with a pushchair and the playgrounds.
A child-sized Saturday and Sunday
Saturday
In the morning, head for the beach, ideally at low tide: the sand stretches as far as you can see, there are castles to build and shrimps to catch with a net in the pools left by the tide. During the holidays, the beach clubs take children from age 3. After lunch and a nap, hire bikes and set off along the forest cycle paths, away from the traffic; addresses and routes are on our bike hire in Le Touquet page. In the evening, a barbecue on the terrace and an early night.
Sunday
A stroll along the seafront promenade with a ride on the carousel, then the Parc de l'Estuaire and its play areas, at the northern end of the resort near the Canche estuary. If the wind is up, older children can try sand yachting, from about age 8. More ideas, sorted by age, on our Le Touquet with children page.
What does a family weekend cost?
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| 2 nights (2 × €140) | from €280 |
| Cleaning and linen fee (bed linen and towels) | €50 |
| Total for a family of 4 | from €330 |
These are "from" prices: the nightly rate varies with the season and dates, and a baby can come along without changing the sum. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by 11 am. Book direct and you pay less than on Airbnb, and subject to availability we offer an early check-in or late check-out, a real bonus on Sunday for one last run on the beach before the train. The exact price is shown on the booking page.
The house is quiet: quiet hours run from 10 pm to 9 am, parties are not allowed, and each flat takes 4 guests plus a baby. Travelling as two families? Book both flats, for 8.
Charles's tip: check the tide times before you leave and plan Saturday's beach session around low tide. For children, that is when it all happens: tidal pools, shrimps, shells and sand as far as the eye can see.
