Renting from a private owner: what's different
When you rent straight from the owner, the person you deal with is the one who furnished the place and knows every detail of it. Ask whether the travel cot is already set up, how the bedrooms are laid out or whether a later arrival is possible, and you get a precise answer. There is no agency or booking centre in between.
Villa Mon Étoile, at 40 rue d'Étaples in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, has two 55 m² flats, Hélios and Cassiopée, each sleeping 4 plus a baby. Charles, the owner, lets them himself, directly on this website and also on Airbnb and Gens de Confiance, a French holiday platform.
How direct booking works
- Check the calendar. On our booking page, availability for Hélios and Cassiopée is shown live. For 8 people, book both on the same dates.
- Pick your dates. The minimum stay is 2 nights, from €140 a night depending on the season.
- Check the total. On top of the nightly rate there is a €50 cleaning and linen fee per stay (sheets and towels provided) and the tourist tax, charged per adult per night (see Le Touquet tourist tax).
- Ask before you confirm. Unsure about equipment or arrival time? Use the contact page or ring Charles.
- Arrive. Keys are waiting on site, and arrival and departure are flexible depending on the bookings calendar.
Trust signals you can check
- Reviews on several independent sites. 4.7/5 on Google, 4.81/5 (Cassiopée) and 4.78/5 (Hélios) on Airbnb, 5.0/5 on Gens de Confiance. Guest reviews are gathered on our reviews page.
- The same flats on the platforms. The flats you see here are the same ones listed on Airbnb and Gens de Confiance: same photos, same address, same host.
- A real, checkable address. 40 rue d'Étaples, about 300 m from the beach and 200 m from rue Saint-Jean: look it up on a map before you book.
- A declared furnished holiday let. Both flats are let within the French legal framework for furnished tourist rentals; feel free to ask for the registration number, as you would with any host.
- An owner you can reach. A phone number, an email address, a person who answers: the basics of renting privately.
Tips for renting privately without nasty surprises
These habits apply to any holiday let, ours or any other on the coast:
- Check that the address exists and that the photos match the building.
- Be wary of a price far below other offers for high-demand dates (summer, bank holidays, school holidays).
- Never pay by money transfer service, gift card, cryptocurrency or an urgent transfer to an unfamiliar foreign account.
- Speak to the owner, by phone if possible, before paying.
- Keep written confirmation of the dates, number of guests and total price, including cleaning fee and tourist tax.
For more, our comparison of booking direct versus through a platform sets out the pros and cons of each, honestly.
Charles's tip: before booking with a private owner, ask them something very specific about the property, such as the bed sizes or which floor it is on. A quick, precise answer often tells you more than a glossy listing.
