Family reunion in Le Touquet: organising a stay for 6, 8 or more

In short

For a family reunion in Le Touquet, book early accommodation that keeps the group together while giving everyone their own space: two neighbouring apartments for 8 people work well. Then plan two or three shared highlights (beach, cycling in the forest, sand yachting, a big meal together) and split the costs per person.

Bringing 6, 8 or more people together in Le Touquet is simple if you settle three questions in order: accommodation, dates, then the programme. The resort lends itself well to it: everything can be done on foot or by bike, the beach and the forest offer space for all ages, and there is no shortage of activities to share.

A grandparents' birthday, a gathering of cousins, a weekend with friends: here is our method for organising a successful group stay, without turning the organiser into an overwhelmed travel agent.

One large house or two neighbouring apartments?

This is the first decision, and it sets the tone for the stay. A large house brings everyone together under the same roof; two neighbouring properties keep the group together while giving each family a little privacy.

CriterionOne large houseTwo neighbouring apartments
Shared livingConstant, ideal for very close-knit groupsMeals and evenings together, quiet nights each in your own space

KitchenJust one, sometimes tight for 8 to 10 peopleTwo kitchens: you can cook in parallel
BathroomsOften the morning flashpointOne per property
Availability in Le TouquetRare in the town centre, often on the outskirtsEasier to find near the beach

Whichever option you choose, check the actual number of beds (not just the number of "guests"), whether there's a cot if needed and the walking distance to the beach and the shops: with eight people, every car journey becomes a small expedition.

At Villa Mon Étoile, the villa's two apartments, Hélios and Cassiopée, can be booked together: 8 people, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and two equipped kitchens, in a 1920s Art Deco villa about 300 m from the beach.

Booking at the right time

Accommodation for 8 is harder to find than an apartment for 4, and everyone has to be free on the same dates. The rule: fix the date with the group, then book straight away.

  • School holidays: this is when families with children can get away, so it's the most in demand. Aim for several months ahead for the summer.
  • French bank-holiday and long weekends: 1 and 8 May, Ascension, Whitsun, 14 July, 15 August, 11 November. Ideal for a three-day cousins' gathering, they go quickly.
  • Event weekends: the Enduropale in February, the show-jumping competition in spring, summer festivals, the festive season. The resort is full and lively; check the tourist office's events calendar before choosing.
  • Out of season: from autumn to spring, outside the holidays and events, there's more choice and a calmer atmosphere, perfect for a birthday between walks.

To fix the date, a simple online poll shared with all the participants saves dozens of messages. Suggest two or three weekend options and book as soon as a majority emerges.

Activities that bring all generations together

The secret of a group stay: two or three shared highlights a day, and plenty of freedom in between. In Le Touquet, these shared moments are easy to find.

On the beach

  • Beach games: at low tide, the foreshore becomes a huge pitch for football, frisbee, kite flying or sandcastles. Remember to check the tide times the day before.
  • Sand yachting, the resort's signature sport. The Bertrand Lambert water sports centre offers courses and lessons, open from age 8 according to the tourist office; a small-group session makes an excellent shared memory. Book ahead, as slots depend on the wind and the tide.
  • The walk to the point, towards the baie de Canche, at the pace of the slowest.

In the forest and by bike

  • Cycling: around 800 hectares of pines surround the town, with flat lanes and cycle paths. Several bike hire shops are based in town; book for the whole group, especially during the holidays.
  • A picnic in the forest or the dunes, with produce from the market.

For the sporty and the curious

  • Golf: Le Touquet Golf Resort has two 18-hole courses and a shorter 9-hole course, Le Manoir. The tourist office also mentions options suitable for beginners (driving range, short-game initiation, putting competitions, team challenges), a good idea for a group.
  • The Canche lighthouse, open to visitors at certain times of year, and Le Touquet's covered market on market days.

At the table

The big meal remains the heart of a family reunion. At a restaurant, book early, giving the exact number of guests and the children's ages: not every dining room can set up a long table on a Saturday evening in season, and some offer a set menu for groups. Our selection of restaurants in Le Touquet will help you choose. The convivial alternative: a big home-cooked dinner, prepared together with produce from the market.

Sample two-day programme

Here is a schedule that works for a group mixing children, parents and grandparents. Adapt it to the weather and the tides, and draw inspiration from our weekend in Le Touquet programme too.

TimeDay 1Day 2
MorningArrival, settling in, market and shopping for the weekendCycling in the forest for some, a lie-in or golf for others
LunchPicnic on the beach or a simple meal at the accommodationBig family lunch, at a restaurant or at home
AfternoonBeach, low-tide games, sand yachting for volunteersA stroll along the seafront promenade to walk off lunch, group photo, staggered departures
EveningDrinks and dinner all together, then a quiet evening—

Two principles make this programme enjoyable: just one compulsory get-together per half-day, and optional activities for those who want to do more. Grandparents appreciate being able to go back and rest a few minutes' walk away.

Budget: sharing costs simply

Talking about money from the outset avoids misunderstandings. The items to plan for:

  • Accommodation: the nightly price, plus any cleaning and linen fees, and the tourist tax.
  • Shared groceries: breakfasts, drinks, dinners at home.
  • Activities: everyone often pays for their own, unless it's a group gift.
  • The restaurant for the big meal, shared or treated depending on the occasion.

An example with us, at base rates: the two apartments are available from €140 per night each, with a 2-night minimum, plus a €50 cleaning and linen fee per apartment (not included in the nightly price). For a 2-night weekend for 8: 2 × 2 × €140 + 2 × €50 = €660, or about €82 per person, excluding the tourist tax and depending on the dates. This per-person calculation helps you compare with other options. For the tax, see our article on the tourist tax in Le Touquet.

On the organisational side, an expense-sharing app or a shared kitty for groceries makes the accounts simpler. Decide in advance how to split costs: per adult, per family, with or without the children.

The house rules: quiet, neighbours and living together

A group stay in a holiday rental is not a party. Most holiday rentals in Le Touquet are in residential neighbourhoods, surrounded by year-round neighbours. Our villa, for example, is a quiet house: it welcomes families and friends, not parties or events.

  • Respect the peace and quiet: night-time noise disturbance is punishable by a fine, and the French government website Service-Public.fr cites the hours of 10 pm to 7 am. In practice, lower your voices once dinner is over, especially outside.
  • Declare the real number of guests: a property's capacity is not a rough guide, it takes account of the beds and safety.
  • Share the chores: one team cooks, another tidies up, and you take turns. A list pinned up in the kitchen works wonders.
  • Appoint a point of contact to liaise with the host: arrival, practical questions, departure.

Charles's tip: for a big gathering around the table, plan the big meal on the first evening rather than the last. Everyone is there, nobody is watching the clock for their train, and the rest of the stay gains in closeness. On the last day, a homemade brunch lets everyone leave at their own pace.

Frequently asked questions

Where can 8 people stay in Le Touquet for a family reunion?

Large houses are rare in the town centre; two neighbouring apartments booked together are often easier to find near the beach. Villa Mon Étoile combines two apartments for 8 people, with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

How far in advance should you book for a group?

For the summer holidays, the May bank-holiday weekends and event weekends, several months in advance. Out of season and outside the school holidays, a few weeks is often enough.

What group activities are there in Le Touquet?

Beach games at low tide, sand yachting, cycling in the forest, golf, a picnic in the dunes and a big meal all together are safe bets for all generations.

Can you hold a party in a holiday rental in Le Touquet?

Most rentals, including Villa Mon Étoile, do not accept parties or events: they are located in residential neighbourhoods. For a big party, it's better to book a venue or a restaurant.
